Many currently available medium format cameras are locked into a single or a limited set of frame sizes. The VZ-6617 offers the photography to change from 6×6 to 6×17 and every size in between on the fly and mid-roll. This allows you to select the frame size to fit your creative vision and composition. This is a feature we’ve not seen with other film cameras currently on the market.

We’re currently going through final pre-production prototype testing and beta testing.
Our initial production round will be offered via Kickstarter to help fund the ramp-up to direct sales. We’re targeting April 2026 to launch this campaign, with first units shipping in June 2026. If you’d like to keep up to date, please sign up for updates using the form on the home page or contact page.
We also have a limited Beta Test Program. If you’d like to participate, please go to the VZ-6617 product page and complete the form.

The VZ-6617 includes a fully-assembled camera body and lens cone matched to the lens of your choice. The camera body contains all mechanics for film loading/unloading, film transport, and frame size adjustment. While a matching lens cone for your lens is included, you must supply the large format lens of your choice.

While most large format lenses with integrated shutters are compatible, it will depend on the image circle, flange focal distance, and expected frame sizes you wish to use. Certain large format lenses and focal lengths may not have the image circle coverage to fully expose a full 6×17 frame size, but may be suitable for the smaller frame sizes the VZ-6617 is capable of. While we have a list of tested compatible lenses, we will help you confirm that the lens you plan to use will work with our camera.

The VZ-6617 come standard with a cold shoe mounted optical viewfinder optimized for a 6×17 frame size and 90mm focal length. We find this offers the most compositional flexibility for a fixed viewfinder.
Alternatively, the camera works very well with a multitude of third-party smartphone-based viewfinder apps. May of these apps offer multiple focal length and frame size configurations, which work well with the VZ-6617. Third-party cold shoe mounted phone holders make this a robust and flexible solution for framing.

The VZ-6617 makes use of large format camera lenses with built-in shutters. As such, all exposures must be done manually. There are no automatic mechanisms that are part of the camera.

The VZ-6617 leverages the latest in FDM 3D printing technology to create lightweight, robust, and affordable components. Select materials are used in assemblies and mechanisms to ensure smooth operation, critical performance, and premium tactility. This approach has been tested and proven over multiple iterations of development prototypes leading up the the VZ-6617 production design.

We all know that analog mechanical film cameras require care and maintenance over time. We’ve designed the VZ-6617 to be modular and user-repairable. A single screwdriver is all that is needed to take the camera fully apart and repair it if needed. Repair components and detailed guides will be offered through this website for you to keep your camera at peak performance and allow you to keep shooting uninterrupted.
